The Park is Closed!

The last time the river was high, we walked around the wet spot along the old trail. Today, the gate was closed so we slipped under the gate and over the bridge and there was a lake in front of us with trees sticking out and a flat red thing off in the distance. I looked at Johnnie and told me the water was up to the bottom of the stop sign.
We walked down to the water and there was no trail and no river, just a few geese sitting in the middle of the road. I ran and chased the geese, one of my favorite pastimes, until they squawked and flapped and hopped into the water.
We walked back up to the bridge and I checked the spot where some guy puts out a bowl of cat food. No bowl, no cat food no cats. I love cat food. Johnnie pointed down the slope we usually come up and said, “Where’s the trail?”
How should I know? I gave him a look like “What are you not thinking?” I mean really, where’s the trail. I’m a dog? I rely on you for information. The trail is what we follow, when we walk along the river. I don’t even know where the river is, let alone the trail.
Anyway, we crossed back across the levee and down to the grass strip back to the house. I love the grass strip. I get to run off leash, chase sticks and grab a snack when Johnnie isn’t looking. I love it when people toss food from their cars in the lot. Cold cuts are my favorite.
