“I can lie in the sun all day.”

It tastes like chicken.

Everyday we walked by this this chicken drumlet on the corner. Everyday, I would anticipate getting a little taste. That’s all I would get as Johnnie doesn’t let me pick up stuff along the trail. At least not chicken and especially chicken bones. For some reason, he always knows when I have one.

Yesterday, he was spacing out during the walk, he does that sometimes. I don’t know where his mind was, but he wasn’t paying attention to me when we got to the drumlet so I got a good taste. Johnnie just stands there looking down the block, lost in thought. I grab a few good chunks of meat from the side. Oh yeah, now that tastes good.

Johnnie starts walking down the sidewalk so I pick up the tasty morsel and carry it in my mouth, keeping my head low and tail down, I feel like the hunter protecting my kill. Whatever that means, maybe too much internet browsing with Johnnie. Anyway, we get part way down the sidewalk when Johnnie snaps out of it and notices the chicken bone.

I only want to taste it.

“Drop it,” he says, but I just look at him with dark eyes. This is mine and you can’t have it. He keeps telling me to drop it but I just can’t seem to part with this tasty morsel. Finally, he pries his finger into the back of my mouth and the drumlet falls. I quickly go for it, but Johnnie’s hand grabs it first. “No eat,” Johnnie says. Then he pulls out the camera and snaps off a few. He even has me pose with the chicken right in front of me. The nerve. I just want a taste. Johnnie tosses the drumlet into the vegetation near the building. We’ll be back tomorrow.
