Happy Year of the Rooster

Lot’s of festivities here at Joanna’s house as we are celebrating the Year of the Rooster. It’s a fun celebration except when we go to mama and papa’s place near China Town in Oakland where they blow up fireworks. I hate fireworks. I do love the Chinese New Year, as there are usually lots of snacks and a new toy or two. Yeah.

Speaking of Roosters, there is a flock of chickens living under the bridge where I walk. I want to grab one and give it a good shake, but Johnnie won’t let me. He keeps me on a tight leash since the bridge they live under is at an intersection with lots of high-speed traffic so the leash is short.

A happy couple.

Anyway, there are a couple of roosters who one day were having a regular fight. I mean they were going at it: feet flying, wings flapping, and lots of aggression. As I got closer, the tan one took off and the dark one gave chase. I joined in and yanked Johnnie’s arm followed by a quick snap. I didn’t care. I wanted a rooster.

They disappeared under the bridge then reappeared on the other side of the road with tan head in the lead, squawking and flapping, then they disappeared back under the bridge. This was still going on after we crossed at the light and disappeared on the other side of the levee.

Most days they just hang with the hens and eat stuff in the plant litter on the ground. Anyway, I am going to hang here with Joanna and enjoy the celebration away from things that go boom. Happy New Year!
