Dr. Psycho is Nuts!
– July 26, 2017 Toby –
Johnnie was reading an article on the Internet the other day where this guy with a PhD in psychology says you should not hug your dog. What a bunch of bunk. Johnnie told me not to worry about this guy’s opinion since psychology is not science, and this guy isn’t a dog, so who really cares what he thinks.
Anyway, the idea that dogs don’t like hugs is ludicrous. Most of the humans who commented on this article agree with me that most dogs do like hugs. Now, it is likely that some dogs don’t like hugs at all, and most of us don’t like being hugged by people we don’t know.
This guy says he reads canine body language and since dogs don’t fit his idea of what dog body language is, whatever. I mean come on now, dog whisperers and humans who communicate effectively with their canines will tell you otherwise.
When Joanna gives me a big hug, I don’t wag my tail and I basically fold into her. If you don’t know dogs, then this might be interpreted as not enjoying it, but I am so into it, that I give up completely into her warm body. How can I wag my tail when I am completely under the influence of a good hug? It’s like getting an eyebrow rub, a belly rub, and a butt rub. My tail is down, my ears are back, and I am in heaven.
Now if this Dr of psychology were to try to hug me, I wouldn’t be into it as in who is he, why is he bothering me, and when is he leaving?
Maybe some dogs don’t like hugs just like some humans don’t like hugs. This is likely due to some traumatic experience they had when young, lack of proper socialization when they were puppies, or living with a complete arse. So hug us when we are puppies, during training (see my previous article on hugs), and whenever we come over and want love. It will make both of our days. Hug me, please! I love you.
