Crates are our Dens
– August 8, 2017 Toby –
I love my hut. Humans call them crates and get all fussy about whether or not we should be crate trained. I mean being locked into a plastic box can be quite traumatic for a human to think about. For me, I prefer the door open but when I was younger I didn’t mind. I was born in the central Valley of California to some farm working family, there were lots of children and love.
I have five siblings, two who stayed behind and three who I last saw in a parking lot in Gilroy.

The thing is, we all traveled together in a crate with the door closed and it was great. We cuddled and wrestled and just acted like puppies.
This wasn’t the first time we were in a crate. Mom had a big crate that we called home with a large pillow where we could all be together. The thing about crate training, is we canines don’t like to foul our dens so it’s easier to house train us if you crate train us from the beginning.
Now most pet owners don’t get the puppy as a new born and you don’t always know if the puppy was crate trained, but no matter what, you need to get a crate with comfy bedding that is large enough for us to sit up, turn around, and be comfortable, but small enough for us to feel like we are in a den. After all, this is my preferred location at Joanna’s house. From the beginning, my hut is under the counter by the washer and drier near the kitchen. That’s right, I love the smell of food.
