“I can lie in the sun all day.”

The River is Down!

We walked to the river the other day and the water was low enough that we could go down the road to the fields. The sun baked the muddy road into a thin layer of softness. It smelled good too and being such a nice day, I took off running; it was soft as grass and all the nearby puddles and mud and stench filled the air. I didn’t see any grass, just smelly mud and puddles. A beautiful spring day. We walked into the park and stayed on the road so I could run. I love running on soft surfaces.

Photo of me running on the soft mud left on the road by flooding.
Now that is soft on the paws.

After a bit, we headed off the road on the trail along the river. The mud was sticky and filled my toes and stacked up a little so I had to run a bit. There was no grass anywhere to wipe my feet so I ran into a puddle and splashed around. The wet mud squished between my toes and felt so good that I had to drop onto my belly. The water was cold. Johnnie just laughed. After a short walk down the trail, we ran into water. I walked in and splashed about and then it was up on my chest. I didn’t feel like swimming so I just stood there and took a drink.

“No Drink,” Johnnie said. “Water no good.”

I looked at him and lapped one more drink before strolling out of the water for a good shake. I knew I had a shower coming and it was worth it.
